Create a cartoon avatar from a photograph

To illustrate your MSN, Live Messenger, AIM, Skype, Yahoo, or on different forums that you participate, you can use a personal image, known as avatars. This creation was to adjust and assemble different anatomical elements (head, ears, eyes, body, size, etc.) and decorations (background, accessories, etc). The MSN Cartoon created by Microsoft will further the realism as you can create an avatar type cartoon directly from your photo: the service detects the shape of your face, the position of your eyes, your mouth, your ears, and more.

To use MSN Cartoon, you must use Internet Explorer (the service is incompatible with Firefox and Opera). The service is free and is available only in Chinese. Do not panic, however, here is the detailed guide step by step to create a nice avatar you like, even if for you.

Enable the MSN Cartoon:
  • To use the MSN Cartoon, you must use Internet Explorer.

  • In Internet Explorer, go to the address cartoon.msn.com.cn.

  • Click on the icon to the right.

  • To use the service, you must install MSN Cartoon on your computer. Click the button in the middle of the screen.

  • In the window that appears, click Run.

  • Confirm the installation of the software by clicking the Run button.

  • Select the first option and then click Next.

  • Click the button once the installation is complete.

  • Run ActiveX controls by clicking on the blue bar that appears at the top of the browser window and then click Run ActiveX controls.

  • Click the Run button in the window that appears.

Cartoon MSN service will draw your face from your photo:
  • Click on the icon represented by a folder.

  • Select your hard drive a portrait of you and then click Open.

  • Your image is uploaded and is displayed in your browser.

  • Adjust the frame around your face.

  • Click on any icon on the right.

  • Then select your type of face.

  • The tool then draws the contours of your face, your eyes, mouth, ears and nose.

  • Click on any icon on the right.

  • In the right list, select the color and your haircut.

  • The result is displayed on your avatar.

  • You can also add glasses by clicking on the button represented by a pair of glasses and choosing the model of your choice.

  • You can then see your avatar in various expressions. Use it for the smileys in the drawing.

Recover your avatar cartoon:

You'll now be able to retrieve all the expressions of your avatar in the form of GIF images. Here is how:
  • Click on the image size that you want to retrieve.

  • Download the file then avatars.zip that is offered. This archive contains all the expressions of your avatar.

  • Unpack the archive to access your avatars in GIF format. You can use them to illustrate your nickname. Note that some are even animated avatars!
