How to Open or Forward Ports in Utorrent

Most often you will see a red symbol at Utorrent. The red symbol indicates that no open port where the download traffic can enter. To come to a green symbol would you need a port forward / open. The usefulness of the opening of a port that you download much faster, so you've downloaded stuff already inside. Through the instructions are written to the ultimate symbol green jump again.

Why open a port in Utorrent?

The usefulness of the opening of a port that you download much faster, so get your download speed from Utorrent still blocked. Because you now with a limited download speed takes much longer before you put a movie in it. A port can actually see as an entrance for the download traffic of Utorrent, through this door is already in the download traffic.

To a port, some things you should do before actually open. So you must allow the correct port number in your router and the correct port number must be entered in Utorrent. In the example I give what I use port number 50,005.
The example I describe below may differ slightly from the router by yourself, but you'll automatically see you with this guide a long way with the opening of the port.

    Step 1: Allowing in Utorrent

Start the Utorrent program and go to the following headings.

    • Options
    • Preferences
    • Connection

In ''The Connection''you see a box are called''Port used for incoming connections''here now fill the port number (50005).

    • Click the Exceptions tab,''''.
    • Click Add Port''''.

    Filling out the correct data

    Name: Utorrent1
Port number: Here you enter the port number that you have filled in with Utorrent, in my case port number 50,005.
    Select Tcp''and''click''OK''.
Now you again on Add Port'''' 'button. Fill everything again in the same, but check your TCP instead of UDP to now.

    Windows Vista

    • Click on''Start''.
    • Click on''Control Panel, click on''Security''and then click Windows Firewall''''.
    • Click on''a program through Windows Firewall allow''.
    • Click Add Port''''.

    Filling out the correct data

    • Name: Utorrent1
    • Port number: Here you enter the port number that you have filled in with Utorrent, in my case port number 50,005.
    • Select Tcp''and''then click''OK''.
    • Now you again on Port''Add''button. Fill everything again in the same, but instead of TCP, UDP to check now.

Step 3: The opening of the port in your router

    1. Go to''Start''then click''Run''.

    2. Type cmd in the box and press the enter button.

    3. A black window pops up, type ipconfig it and press the enter button.

    4. Enter the address is in the Default Gateway into your Internet browser.

    5. There is now a window appear where you are asked username and password. In most cases, one of the following combinations (should not be the book you can consult your router).

    Username: admin
    admin password

    Username: admin
    password: 1234

    6. After filling out the information you'll go to your router page.

The example I describe below may differ slightly from the router by yourself, but you'll automatically see you with this guide a long way with the opening of the port.

    7. First you need to go looking for the Port Forwarding, some routers called this as ''Virtual Server''.
The Port Forwarding (Virtual Server) is often found under one of the following headings:

    • Wet
    • Security
    • Firewall
    • Advanced Settings
    • Network

    8. If you have found Port Forwarding / Virtual Server, you can enter the information below.

    Name: Utorrent
Protocol: Both (or called''Any''), as these two options is not in the list you Tcp''tick''. Later when you've filled everything in and click Apply (right) have pressed enter everything again in the same, but now you''check''on UDP.
Start port: The port number (50005).
End Port: The port number (50005).
Ip Address: This can be found by doing the following.

    9. Go to and click on''Start''''Run''.

    10. In the white box, type cmd and press the enter button.

    11. A black window pops up, type ipconfig it and press the enter button.

    12. Now enter the address that Ip address.

    13. If you have filled in the above information press one of the following options''Save'',''Apply'',''Okay'', restart your computer again below. If you reboot your computer start Utorrent.

    14. Now you do a port check to see if the port is actually open. To check the port to go to press at the bottom of utorrent symboolje, there appears a window. In the window you see is what emerged are''Test if port is forwarded properly ", click it. If you check the port clicked opens a web page, it says that the port is open (green sign) or that your port is still closed (red mark).

What to do if the ports are still closed after above steps?

    • Walk through the steps again to see if you've filled in everything correctly.
    • Is there beside your default Windows Firewall is a firewall active on your computer. Firewalls can for example Norton, AVG or Nod32 Eset are. Is there indeed a firewall active, make sure that the port in the firewall is allowed.

Re: How to Open or Forward Ports in Utorrent

That is really a helpful. The port sharing in itself is quite complex as there are simply too many routers and firewalls. I had do this usually by clicking on Settings > Internet > Port Forwarding > New Port Sharing and is a following (of course, as the port value you add to the random port have chosen. With IP address not your IP in the Internet is meant, but the IP in the router.
