    iTunes 9 Tutorial

    From last couple of days, we are getting lots of queries regarding iTunes 9 from our readers. They are not able to get familiar with its new features and functions. So here i am posting the complete steps of getting started and working with iTunes 9. Hope this helps them lot using this latest version of Apple's iTunes:-

    Options pop-up menus:
    You can click the right button mouse on songs, playlists, in the column headers and other items in iTunes to accelerate the execution of certain tasks. For example, to display all the playlists that include a particular song, click on the song with the right button of the mouse, then click on Playlists.

    Quick Links:
    To quickly find the iTunes Store other securities of an artist in your library or a version of the same song by another artist, click the arrow next to the artist or song. To do this, open iTunes> Preferences (Windows: Edit> Preferences) and make sure you have ticked the box "Show links to the iTunes Store.

    Forward or backward in a track:
    To move forward or backward during playback of a piece, slide the diamond on the progress bar. To switch between total duration, elapsed and remaining, click on the corresponding display tab at the top of the iTunes window. (It may be necessary to double-click on a song for this display appears.) Click on song title to switch between artist, title and album name.

    Display options:
    Tunes lets you customize the display of columns in the library and playlists. What information is most important to you: Name, Time, Album, Artist, Genre, Rating, Last Played, Date Added, Year, Counter? In View> View Options, you can display or hide columns in your jukebox. You can even change the location of columns by drag and drop in the headers. It's your jukebox. you match it to your liking.

    Total durations:
    To switch between the approximate length and length specified for all the songs contained in the library or selected playlist, click the time displayed at the bottom of the iTunes window.

    Buffer sizes:
    If you have an Internet connection to broadband (DSL or cable modem), you can speed up the launch of the music played on your computer (previews of songs, radio stations, shared music libraries). To do this, select small for the size of the buffer in the Advanced pane of iTunes Preferences (Windows: Edit> Preferences). If your Internet connection is slower (dialup), you can choose to optimize Great reading streaming.

    Smart Playlists:
    To sort your music by genre or artist, you have a simple means to you: the Smart Playlists. A Smart Playlist continuously seeking in your music library new titles that match the criteria you set. iTunes offers the choice between different criteria to define your smart playlists, including Artist, Album, Year, Name, Last Played, Date Added, Genre, Rating, Counter, among others.

    Thus, you can consolidate all of your tracks R & B / soul in the same playlist. If you create a Smart Playlist, it will include all songs R & B / soul of your library and continuously enriched other tracks R & B / soul that will be subsequently imported into your library.

    Share your playlists:
    You can share your musical tastes with others by publishing your playlists on the iTunes Store. The Shared playlists include 30-second previews of all songs in your playlist that are also available on the iTunes Store. If a title on your list is not available on the iTunes Store, it will not be listed in the shared playlist.

    To share a playlist, first select it. Then click the Publish arrow located right of the playlist in the Source list. If this arrow is not visible, make sure the box "Show links to the iTunes Store" is checked in iTunes> Preferences (Windows: Edit> Preferences).

    The changes you make to your reading list after its publication will not be reflected automatically on the iTunes Store. You must click the Publish arrow each time you make a change to be shared.

    iTunes DJ:
    Let the party begin! And, most importantly, it continues! The DJ List iTunes iTunes acts as DJ. So relax and enjoy your evening. Open iTunes> Preferences (Windows: Edit> Preferences), click View DJ iTunes, then click OK. Select a DJ in the iTunes Source List and iTunes creates a playlist of random tracks from your library. If you wish, you can change the source (bottom of the iTunes playlist DJ), from music to a playlist in particular.

    Additional options for the iTunes list DJ you can see 5 to 100 last track or not, and 5 to Next 100 titles that will be read. Another very clever option lets you configure the list of iTunes DJ listen to way more often ranked titles. With these options, you can add, delete and rearrange on the fly titles in the random playlist, allowing you to have a special list and have more time to unwind on the dance floor .

    Converting WMA files:
    In iTunes for Windows, you can convert your unprotected WMA files to AAC files (or any file format chosen in the Importing pane of iTunes Preferences) without changing the original WMA file. Post WMA files in your iTunes library, and iTunes takes care of converting them. To convert unprotected WMA files, Windows Media Player 9 (or later) must be installed. It is impossible to convert protected WMA files.

    Play securities authorized:
    If you listen to tracks stored in a library or a shared playlist and your computer is not authorized to play purchased tracks included in this list, iTunes ignores them. To listen to purchased music in a playlist or a shared library, you must double-click on the title and allow your computer to read.

    Information about tracks of a CD:
    If you insert a new CD into your computer and the song titles appear in iTunes under the name of Track 1, Track 2, Track 3, etc.. It is desirable to add real information about the album before import. To do this, you have two options. On the one hand, if you are connected to the Internet, you can select Advanced in the menu bar, then "Get the name of the CD tracks. But perhaps your CD is it rare? In this case, it is possible that information about the album does not appear in the online database. You can then double click on a song, then type the title manually. The same goes for names of artists and albums.

    Adding Songs from CDs:
    To quickly add a song from a CD into an existing playlist, insert the CD, then drag the song from the list of CD tracks to the playlist. The song is imported into your library and added to the playlist. To add a new playlist one piece of a CD, drag the song from the CD to the white area below the items that are in the Source list. The song is imported into your library and added a new playlist.

    Changing CD information:
    To speed entry of information on a CD for all tracks on the CD, select the CD in the Source list and choose File> Get Info. You can enter basic information on the CD for all the songs contained therein.

    CDs from Albums:
    To compose your own CD from an album in your library, click Library and choose View> Show Browser (if only the option Hide the browser is visible, this means that the browser is already open). Drag an album from the Album list located in the upper right corner of the library to the white area below the items in your Source list. Click on the icon of the playlist of the album to select it, then choose File> Burn Playlist to Disk. To avoid a warning is displayed when you insert a blank CD, click the "Burn Disc" before inserting the CD.

    Grouping compilations:
    For all pieces of a compilation CD are grouped together in your library, make sure the "Group compilations when browsing" is selected in iTunes> Preferences (Windows: Edit> Preferences). Mac OS X, the preferences are available in the iTunes menu. In Windows, choose Preferences from the Edit menu. If this box is unchecked, the titles of compilation CDs appear individually by artist in the Artist list in crawl mode.

    Printing CD Inserts:
    You can print a list of songs in your library or a playlist up to compose a CD cover or just to have it available. Select your library or playlist, then choose File> Print. Choose to print a pocket to insert a CD case or a simple list of songs or tracks of an album. Select a printing theme from the menu theme. Themes allow you to modify the presentation of printed information. Once you've made your selection, click Print.

    Shopping Basket iTunes 9:
    In iTunes 9 preferences, you can choose to store in a shopping cart items that interest you until you decide to confirm your purchase and download of a sudden all your music. This feature is handy if you're in a place where only a low Internet connection speed is available, if you try to curb your hunger for shopping or if you want to check the choices your children before making the purchase .

    To activate your shopping cart iTunes, go to iTunes> Preferences (Windows: Edit> Preferences). In Preferences, click the green Store icon and choose "Buy the shopping cart.

    Make a wish list:
    You can add to a playlist of excerpts of any securities of the iTunes Store and thus create a list of titles that you want to buy in the future. Start by creating a new playlist. Then drag a sample of each title from the iTunes Store to your new wish list. Listen to a sample or buy the title directly from your playlist by clicking the Buy button.

    Once purchased using the Buy button, the title remains in your wish list, but if you double-click it, it's the entire piece is read, not just the extract. Finally, the price of the piece disappears.

    Monthly gifts, gift vouchers and cards:
    Give your kids a way to download their favorite songs, with accounts of allowance. They can thus access the iTunes Store without using a credit card. It is you who set the ceiling of expenditure, which is renewed every month. You can cancel it or change the amount at any time. A Gift Certificate from the iTunes Store can be fun for sure and can be sent by e-mail for delivery immediately (ideal for last minute gifts).

    If you want to register for an allowance or a check to buy gifts online, visit the iTunes Store and select Provide iTunes menu shortcuts, located on the right. You can also purchase iTunes Gift Cards from the Apple Store online and at many retailers.
