Remove user name from the Start menu - Windows XP

If you use the default Start menu in Windows XP, you will have noticed that the name of the current user is displayed in bulk at the top of this menu.To remove, it is necessary to modify the registry.


Run Regedit and then open the key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Policies / Explorer.


Click the Edit menu, click New then DWORD Value. NoUserNameInStartMenu name it.Double click it and enter 1 in the field Value data,Click OK, close the Registry Editor and restart your computer to apply the change.

Good but we should careful while playing with registry better is take the backup first.

It would be nice if we could actually customize what is displayed
instead of the name.
I don't midn the name there. I don't really want to remove it.
But, I would not mind even repalcing it with something else.
Like the computer name instead.

So, in this case where is XP retreiving the name from? AD?

When ur in Domain u cant Change Display Name by Changing such registry. Always it take name from domain .
