How to Sync Thunderbird with Gmail-imap

You can use Gmail and Thunderbird on multiple PCs and if you have problems synchronizing between the PC then use IMAP instead of POP3.

Steps:

1. Enable IMAP in Gmail.
2. In Thunderbird v.2.0 and higher (in summary):

- Choose IMAP (logic)
- Incoming Server: imap.gmail.com
- Port: 993
- Security: SSL
- Check the 2 boxes "Check the mail to launch" and "Check for new messages every ...".

- Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com
- Port: 587
- Security: TSL
- Do not forget to check the "Use a user name and password.

Configuring Thunderbird using Gmail-Imap

The advantage of IMAP over POP3 is that all possible changes that you made in the Thunderbird will be also made in Gmail. The corresponding folders in thunderbird to Gmail labels. So you work directly on the gmail server and not local and you can also download to your pc the messages contained in a / the file (s) (read (s)).
