You know, it is inappropriate to disconnect a USB drive suddenly with out ejecting before. Windows comes with many tool in system notification area but it is impractical. Here, instead, is a gadget capable of releasing your USB drives with a click and eject your CD and DVD.
Power Eject is a small gadget to eject any external drive (except eSATA), USB or optical disk (CD, DVD, etc.).
- First, download and install the Power Eject gadget.
- Once the gadget installed in Windows component, place the mouse over and click on the configuration of the gadget.
- Check the box Enable Detection of Fixed/External USB Hard disks if you want the gadget also mark the drives. Otherwise it will only display USB sticks and scanners. Click OK.
- The gadget displays a popup menu with the different units recognized.
In conclusion, before removing a USB drive, select it in the gadget menu, and click Eject.
Note: The gadget seems to work with 32-bit editions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 in the version 1.0 (it does not install on Windows 7 64-bit for example).
