can increasing the virtual paging memory improve performance?

i increased the virtual paging memory of my system.80 gb hard disk celeron 2.4 processor,512mb ram.can it increase the performance?
what should be ideal value?

Without virtual memory if you full with the available RAM your computer would give error With virtual memory computer can copy them on hard disk and frees up space in RAM to load the new application. so that is merely the extension of the memory hierarchy to include hard disk drives. the value for virtual memory should be identical for both limit upper and lower like 1000 and 1000 ,2000 and 2000 and it increase performance mainly while processing like gaming or virtual application its not affect copying speed..
