Master the visual keyboard in Windows 7

Very useful on Tablet PCs and on PCs with touch screens, the screen keyboard in Windows 7 has many improvements compared to previous editions. Early discovery.

On-screen keyboard in Windows 7 is part of the technologies grouped under the section "Use the computer without a mouse or keyboard. Microsoft has indeed sought to increase the use of scenarios in which the PC is controlled differently than through duo "mouse + keyboard."

Windows 7 thus depicts speech recognition (even more than under Vista, Windows 7 may be entirely controlled voice with a microphone) and technology "touch" (with or without stylus).

On-Screen Keyboard for Windows is one of these alternative control devices.

    To call the screen keyboard:

    - Open the Start menu in Windows 7 briefly pressing the [Windows] key
    - Enter "keyboard" in the search box
    - Windows Visual Keyboard move on top of the menu, click on it.
    - On-Screen Keyboard is displayed. Its look has now effects of transparency and relief.

    Keypad:

Note that by default the keyboard does not display a numeric keypad. However, it is quite possible to claim such a display pad:

    - In the on-screen keyboard on the screen, click the Options button
    - In the Options box that opens, check the "Enable the numeric keypad"
    - Click OK.

    Prediction of text:

The keypad uses a default prediction of text that inspired some of the T9 system found on mobile phones. When you start typing a few letters, the keyboard automatically suggests several complete words based on these letters to avoid having to enter them fully.

This predictive behavior can be disabled:

    - In the on-screen keyboard on the screen, click the Options button
    - In the Options box that opens uncheck the "Use predictive text"
    - Confirm by clicking OK

    Autostart:

Finally, remember that you can ask Windows to automatically display the screen keyboard at boot:

    - In the on-screen keyboard on the screen, click the Options button
    - In the Options box that appears, click below on "Determining if the visual keyboard appears when I open a session"
    - The control panel opens on advanced settings.
    - Simply check the box "Use On-Screen Keyboard."
    - Confirm by clicking OK or Apply.

On–screen Keyboard has three typing modes you can use to type data:
    • Clicking mode by selecting this option, you can start the on-screen keys to type text.
    • Scanning mode On-Screen Keyboard continually scans the keyboard and highlights areas where you can type keyboard characters by pressing a hot key or by using a switch–input device.
    • Hovering mode you use a mouse or joystick to point to a key for a predefined period of time, and the selected character is typed automatically.
