Unhide built-in Administrator in Windows XP using regedit

Some of you must be wondering about the built-in Administrator account in Windows XP and that why it is only visible and accessible in the Safe Mode and not through the normal mode? Well, even I wonder why Microsoft has kept this so called Administrator hidden from all!

But now, you can get this built-in Administrator account of XP on your welcome screen in the normal mode just by doing some registry changes. Yes!!

Follow these steps to change the registry settings,
  1. Launch Registry Editor by typing regegit in the Run window.

  2. Find this registry key in the Registry Editor,
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList

  3. Double-click the Administrator key in the right pane.

  4. If the Administrator key doesn’t exist, right-click on the above tree in the pane, choose New, DWORD Value, name it Administrator and press ENTER.

  5. In the Value data box type 1, and press ENTER.
Thats it. Now you can access Administrator account through your normal mode

Re: Unhide built-in Administrator in Windows XP using regedit

WoW, great tip
Even I always wondered whenever I went to Safe Mode that how this Administrator account came when i haven't created it. At first time, I also tried to delete that account

Then I realized that it is a built-in account in Windows XP and is only visible in the Safe Mode. Now this is nice thing that we can also get it on the normal mode and access it.

Re: Unhide built-in Administrator in Windows XP using regedit

This is the special account in Windows XP that is similar to Super user or the ROOT account in Unix systems. Deleting this account can cause serious problems with Windows and you may not access the Windows also. Also, even if you get this account on Welcome Screen, there is no need to make changes in this account because the required changes can also be done through the other Admin accounts. Any wrong changes in this built-in Admin account can cause problems to the systems.

Once you unhide and reveal the Administrator account, you can change its picture or assign it a password or change the password. In addition, on the next boot to the Welcome screen, the Administrator account will be visible, along with all of the computer’s other user accounts.
