The UAC (U ser A ccount C ontrol) is a process used by Windows Vista, to run by default, applications with limited rights of a limited user, regardless of the level of privilege of user running the application. If the program requires a privilege level higher, a warning is sent to the user.

It is possible to retain partial disabling protected mode for Internet Explorer 7
To do this:
- Open the Registry Editor.
- Go to the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ System.
- Find the value ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin.
- Right-click to edit and set its value to 0.
