How to insert a sound into a text document in OpenOffice

  1. Go to the Tools menu in OpenOffice Writer and then click Media Player (so that it is checked as in the screenshot below):

  2. If the media player component is not yet visible in your interface, click on the area outlined in red:
  3. Once this aspect appeared, click the small button-shaped yellow folder. You will see a tree of your computer and its contents appear in a new dialog box. Get the sound file you want to insert into your Writer document.
  4. If all goes well, you should begin to hear sound file on your computer speakers. Otherwise, first check if the reading began (area outlined in red below) and if your speakers are functional.
  5. If it fits what you want to insert into your Writer document, you can insert it by clicking the button available:
  6. That's it, your sound file appears in your document Writer:


You can insert as many files as you want in your Writer document. You can then close the media player again via the Tools Menu of the application.
