    DVD rom drive lock

Is there any software which can disable the DVD rom drive in a desktop. I don't want anyone to open the drive and load software in it.

The best option to lock the CD / DVD drive is to do it from within the operating system or Windows. There is a free utility that does this for you for free and it is called CD/DVD Drive Locker. Once this utility is installed it will give you options to lock the drives that you intend lock.

Add the drives that you intend to lock in the locked drives list, once this is done you won’t be able to open the tray of CD / DVD drive using the eject button even though they may be powered. Move the drives that are locked to Available CD/DVD drives list and the software will unlock these drives. The usage of the software is pretty straight forward so any body can use it with ease.

The software works perfectly in Windows XP and Windows Vista.

CD-Door Guard closes the drive's door when you forget to do it, helps you to lock the drive and prevent your small children from playing with it, locks your laptop's drive when the computer goes to sleep mode. And much more!

If you are looking for a physical way to get around this issue you could simply disable the DVD-rom drive in the BIOS. Another way you could do this is to simply unplug the ribbon cable from the DVD-rom drive.

You might try optical drive lock utility.

You can do it from the device manager.

    Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Device Manager > DVD/CD-ROM drives >

Right click on each drives & disable.

You can master the usage of the CDROM/DVDROM by using CDRom Watchdog. So that CDROM/DVDROM will be your loyal subordinate. All the disks or CD-ROM unaccepted by you are forbidden to use. You can prevent such things to happen by CDRom Watchdog, that your children play the games secretly(parent control) or anyone use your CDRom without your approval. If you have this series of software, anyone could not use your CD-ROM unauthorized.
