"Portable Ubuntu" is a very special version of Ubuntu designed to function as a normal application on Windows. And simultaneously take advantage of both systems and their respective applications without having to use virtualization solutions! And it works really well!
Portable Ubuntu is a derivative of the most popular distribution of Linux based on Linux Kernel Co-designed to run on Windows without interfering with it.
- Download the archive unpacks self Portable Ubuntu
- Double-click the downloaded. The application will unzip to the location that you designate in the knowledge that in all cases the files will be placed in a subfolder called Portable_Ubuntu. We advise you therefore unpacking C: or D: (if you have a second partition).
- How to launch:
- In Windows XP, you can simply double click on the application RUN_PORTABLE_UBUNTU.
- Under Windows Vista and Windows 7, open the Start menu. Enter CMD in the search field and push simultaneously [CTRL] + [Shift] + [Enter] to open the command prompt as administrator. Then use the CD command followed by the path of the folder where the application has been unpacked. Finally RUN_PORTABLE_UBUNTU enter and validate by [Enter].
For example to launch the software unpacked D: you must enter the following sequence (each line validate by [Enter]):
Code:D: CD Portable_Ubuntu Run_Portable_Ubuntu- The system takes about a minute to load and display a command bar at the top of your screen. This is equivalent to the Windows taskbar, but Linux-Ubuntu.
- Click the Firefox icon in this bar and enter www.techarena.in to verify that the Linux has access to the Internet. If everything is OK, close Firefox.
- From now on, each time the system will ask you to enter the administrator password, enter: 123456
- Click on the clock in the taskbar, then click Locations, and then click Edit. Click Add. Enter Mumbai in the Location Name field and click Find. Select "Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus" and click OK and then click CLOSE. The time is now correct.
- Go to System Administration and then click Language Support. Confirm English in the list and click Apply. Wait for the components to download. If a warning appears click Yes (and possibly on Close). Back on the box Language Support, select English in the Default Language popup menu and click OK. Click Close.
- In the System menu, click Quit. The GUI Ubuntu extinguished but the heart of the system remains active. Click on the icon TrayRun in the notification area of the system. A console appears (Cooperative Linux). Press [Windows] and [Alt] to turn off the kernel and close the console.
- Repeat the procedure for launching and find that Ubuntu is now in English.
