How to Maintain the laptop battery

A battery has 2 main characteristics, the voltage expressed in Volts (V) and the amount of electricity expressed in Ampere-hours (Ah) or milliamp-hours (mAh). The energy characteristic of a battery is calculated as follows: Voltage (V) x amount of electricity (Ah) = Energy (Wh)

    Example: 19.5 x 4400mAh V = 85.8 Wh

We can then speak of capacity for energy instead of power.

What type of battery is used to empower a laptop?

All batteries sold today with the original laptops were made in technology Li-Ion, ie that it is a type of battery lithium whose materials (lithium) is the ionic state.
These batteries are expensive because the lithium material is expensive and their main advantage is the amount of energy that have little to fit in a small volume.

    Key Benefits

    • No memory effect and very low memory (principle prematurely using the battery will not recharge to 100% due to poor maintenance of the battery.)
    • Excellent amount of energy / volume due to physical properties of lithium.
    • Self-discharge (natural discharge when the battery is unused) negligible which does not worry about storage.
    • Secure compared to the first lithium batteries (with the metallic state) through an electronic circuit integrated within (in the plastic mold).

Re: How to Maintain the laptop battery

    Main disadvantages

    • Price, because of the complexity of manufacturing and material (Lithium).
    • Deterioration when the battery discharge below 10% (up 20% of capacity lost in one fell swoop!).
    • Charging current limited because of their internal technology and the dangers of lithium, so the burden may seem slow!
    • Low resistance to high temperatures: it is advisable to use at a temperature of 20-25 ° C, but do not exceed 40 ° C under penalty of the really damaging. We should never reach the high temperatures of around 75-80 ° C under penalty of explosion (not a joke!).
    • As they all batteries wear out over time and nothing can reverse the process.

    CAUTION:

Batteries whatsoever (batteries, rechargeable batteries, lead acid batteries & lithium ...) are highly polluting and should never be thrown ashore. They must be completely recycled.
We should never try to repair a battery by opening it on pain of being burned or seriously of becoming intoxicated.

Increase the lifespan of the battery of laptop

As was mentioned previously change the battery is truly an investment of around one hundred euros in general, so there are some concepts to know and implement to extend a maximum life .

    These precautions are:

    • First buy a battery when the first thing to look (after its power in W) is its date of manufacture : actually announced earlier as a battery loses its manufacturing capacity, thus the date is more recent battery capacity is close to that indicated on the label.
    • Opt for brands of batteries, especially not to buy batteries on the cheap imported directly from China, they can be extremely dangerous because they have suffered very little control, if any! So beware, they can be very dangerous!
    • Do not exceed the discharge current specified by the manufacturer of the battery (eg if marked 4400mAh then we should not "pull" more than 4.4 A for one hour) for fear of damaging it considerably. Clearly, it is recommended to use your battery to power other machines.
    • A very important point noted above: never fall below 10% load. In general the operating system, whatever it is, directly the computer to sleep when there are only 15% of remaining charge. You can really lose 20% capacity in one fell swoop, I personally lost 10% of capacity at once wanting to try.
    • Leave the battery charger safely without using it. Do not worry, when you recharge your battery power cord divides its power: part will be to charge your battery, the other is used for the operation of your laptop, therefore your battery is not used during this time.
    • Calibration: this manipulation is to "reframe" the burden of your battery. To do this, when the battery is discharged at the maximum (not below 10% but when the OS is the laptop in standby) it must be fully recharged without interruption. It actually allows you to undergo a battery discharge followed by a full charge, which the interview. It is advisable to do this 1 to 2 times per month.
