Customize the Vista Aurora Screen Saver Settings

Although these screen savers are cool but by default the Aurora screen saver has no options to set in the Screen Saver Settings window. However, you can customize the Aurora screen saver settings through the registry instead. Location of the Aurora screen saver file is at C:\Windows\System32\Aurora.scr.
You will just need to play with the settings and adjust the Value Data until you get the desired affect from the selected DWORD Value Name. Lets see how to customize the Aurora settings :-

    1. Open the Start Menu.

    2. In the white line (Start Search) area, type regedit and press Enter.

    3. Click on Continue in the UAC prompt.

    4. In regedit, go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Screensavers\Aurora.

    5. In the right pane, right click on a empty area and click on New and DWORD (32-bit) Value.

    6. Now type in a DWORD Value Name you want in the table below and press Enter. If you are not familiar with DWORD value name, have this :

    DWORD Value Name - Amplitude
    Value Data - 500000000 to 2000000000
Description - Higher value number for a slower slow motion affect.

    DWORD Value Name - Brightness
    Value Data - 1000000000 to 1050000000
Description - Higher value number for brighter affect.

    DWORD Value Name - NumLayers
    Value Data - 1 to 15
Description - Number of aurora layers.

    DWORD Value Name - Speed
    Value Data - 1000000000 to 2100000000
Description - Higher value number for faster cycling.

    7. Right click on the DWORD Value Name (from step 6) and click on Modify.

    8. Dot Decimal, and type in the Value Data you want in the table above and click on OK.

    9. Repeat steps 5 to 8 to customize another available DWORD Value Name option.

    10. Close Regedit when done.
