Over time, our hard drives are filled with temporary files, old versions, duplicates and all sorts of other documents that we lose sight of the usefulness and interest, forgetting why they were kept . And we end up not really knowing where everything is consumed disk space ... If your discs have several years of data and documents, it is high time for storage and cleaning with a tool specifically created for this: Xinorbis.

    Xinorbis Graphical Representation

Xinorbis is a free tool that analyzes in depth the contents of your discs. Its friendly interface combines tables, views and original graphics to track unnecessary files and resume space.

Begin by downloading the software by following this link.

Installation is very classic and needs no comment. However, it is recommended to perform on Vista by clicking the right button and selecting Run as administrator.

At launch, the software offers a selection box "Quick Start" which allows either an entire disk scanner, or scan a set of records or locations. It is recommended to work with hard disk.

    • In the left section, select a drive and click Scan Selected.
    • The analysis of the disc usually takes 5 to 10 minutes.
    • Note the presence of an upper row consists of 3 tabs: Information (which contains mainly statistical data), Navigate (which allows you to browse the disk to how Windows Explorer, but provides the size of each folder and the percentage of occupancy) and History Folder (which offers all sorts of statistics by type of files).
    • Click on Navigate. Select the last icon Color code to view the files with color codes corresponding to their type. Note that you can sort the files using criteria such as access time, creation date or date of last modification. Note that at a glance you see the files that consume the most disk space by using the "%".
    • Return on Information tab. This provides access to a second row of tabs, each with a specific role:
      • Summary displays a complete overview of the occupation of your disk, including the name and size of the largest and the file name and size of the largest file.
      • Table displays table and graphically the disk according to the types of files: programs, system, graphics, video, audio, office. You can select a display disk (size) or number of files in each group (Quantity).
      • Type complete the Table tab and provides a detailed overview by extension for each category of files in the Table tab. It also provides statistics on attributes (hidden, read-only, etc)
      • Folders is only to files and displays their respective size.
      • Magnitude class files by size categories (from very small to very large). Double-clicking on a category, we get the list of files that comprise it and we can easily find (and delete) the largest files.
      • Date lists all the files per year (disregarding full of files). You can easily access older files and check that they are always useful.
      • History traces the history of graphics on your files between two dates. This allows you to easily identify those most used, and those that are never opened.
      • Top 101 provides a "top" which points to the files that consume the most disk space and less used, ie those to clean first.
      • Other lists all files whose extension does not store them in a particular category.
      • Null displays all the files whose size is zero and therefore a unnecessary statistics.
      • User closes the disk according to the owners of the files (this is especially useful when multiple user profiles are installed on one computer).
      • Temp includes all temporary files found on disk.

To conclude this, please note that Xinorbis features export to HTML or CSV spreadsheet format, very handy for printing then ordered a listing of the contents of your hard drive or even a USB key or CD. To do this, go to the "File" menu, select "Save Reports" and select the output formats that interest you.
