How to edit boot.ini File in Windows Server 2003

    Hi friends,

I know that it very difficult to make any changes in boot.ini file. But with the help of my tip you can quickly and easily locate the Boot.ini file to verify or edit the Microsoft Windows startup configurations and make changes to the Advanced RISC Computing (ARC) path as required. Additionally, you can add switches to the Boot.ini file.

Following are the steps for Editing Boot.ini file
    1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
    2. In Control Panel, double-click System.
    3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
    4. Under System startup, click Edit.

There is one more way of it, but before that make sure you have a backup of it.You edit boot.ini file through notepad and following are the steps to configure the boot.ini file attributes for editing

    1. Click on Start Run and type on cmd to open a command window and navigate to the root of the boot directory.
    2. Type the following text at the command line.

      • attrib -s -h -r boot.ini

    3. This procedure removes the system, hidden, and read-only attributes of the file.
    4. When your editing is complete, you can restore the file attributes to protect the boot.ini file.
    5. Use the following command to restore the attributes.

      • attrib +s +h +r boot.ini
