    star Set Default Programs for Different Data Types.

    Hey Guys! Have you ever imagined that for some reason your default program for accessing any file type is different then the program you want to use. In such scenario what could be done? Suppose i have windows media player installed by default on my computer which has Windows XP Pro. I installed WinAmp for some reason, and now my multimedia files [audio/video] opens in WinAmp. Now for some reason i want to play my multimedia files in Windows Media Player again. What do i do? Keep on right-clicking on every multimedia fils then going to properties then clicking change then select the default program and then click ok then again click apply and finally again click ok. huff!! This procedure is for single file type. there are a number of file types which fall in the multimedia section, example : mp3, avi, mpg, vob etc.

    For this problem Windows provides a simple tool to select "Default Programs to access a group of files." You can select your different Default Access Program for Different Files from the following location :

    Go to Control Panel
    Run "Add or Remove Programs"
    Now click on "Set Program Access and Defaults"
    Now there are three options.
    Click on "Microsoft Windows" if you want to select the programs which are inbuilt in windows.
    Click on "Non-Microsoft" if you want to select the programs which are not inbuilt in windows.
    Click on "custom" if you want to select the default programs manually.

    Easy and simple huh??

    Re: Set Default Programs for Different Data Types.

    I have another and much more simple solution..........

    • Select the media file with the help of ctrl+a;
    • Select them all.
    • Then right on one of the file and you will find an option Open With.....
    • In that option you will find choose program ;
    • Select that option and then choose the media player you always want to use and select the check box in the same window which will say that use this option as the default player for all media files.
    • select that check box and then OK.

    It's done.
