Follow some simple steps to change the startup and shutdown audio in windows XP:
- Click on the start button, and select either "Control Panel" or "Settings" and then "Control Panel."
- Find the 'sounds and audio devices' icon and double click on it.
- Choose the second tab along labeled 'Sounds'.
- Look under "Program Events" to find a list of sound events that you can change.
- Scroll down the list and select "Start Windows."
- Select "Exit Windows" under "Program Events" to change the sound Windows plays when your computer is shutting down.
- Choose a new sound from the drop-down list, or click "Browse" and locate the .wav file you wish to hear when Windows starts up or shuts down.
- If you don't want Windows to play any sound at start up, scroll down the list and select "None."
