How to Build Your Own Personal PC Computer

Advantages to building your own computer

    • You can build your computer exactly how you want it, as best fits your computing needs. When you build your own computer, it truly is a "personal" computer.

    • Building a PC is an educationally rewarding experience that can enrich a person's knowledge of and appreciation for applied math, electronics, and physics.

    • Sometimes a homebuilt computer can be less expensive than a comparably equipped store-bought computer, especially if you start with a barebones computer kit.

    • Building computers is an enjoyable hobby with the potential to lead to a career. In fact, many IT professionals got their start by building their own computers.

This Information will give you some basic idea on how to build your own PC.

    Step 1

Make a list of the things that you will need. You have to do this because you want to be cost effective as well as efficient in buying the parts. We do not want to have parts that do not fit like a glove in our system.

    Step2

After making a list, make sure that you make a canvass first of the PC suppliers. You must choose the right supplier because some suppliers tend to take advantage of customers, so choose wisely. One more advantage of making a canvass is that you get to choose which suppliers offer more competitive prices.

    Step3

Putting it all together. After buying the stuff that you need, you can now start building your PC. Always remember that every part has some sort of instruction manual and you should never neglect the instruction manual. Another thing that you have to remember is that almost if not often that the parts go into specific sockets that no other part can fit into.

    Step4

After putting all the parts together, you are now ready to test your system. Before you turn that switch, make a final check of the parts. Make sure that there are no loose connections or that they are all in a snug fit to each other.

    PC Building Precautions

Before you take the plunge and begin to build your new PC, be sure to take note of the following precautions and advice we offer

    Electric Shock

When working on your PC or any mains-powered equipment, always disconnect it completely from the mains wall socket.
Never dismantle the actual PSU in your PC. This unit contains potentially lethal mains voltages, even when it is disconnected from the supply. They are not user-repairable. If it fails, replace it with a new one.

    Sharp Edges

Beware of sharp edges inside PC Cases and the small solder pins on boards. A harmless-looking case edge can be as sharp as a razor, and remove large chunks of flesh if accidentally nudged with a slipping hand.

    Connections

Always remember to completely disconnect the power before connecting/disconnecting components or cables.
When making cabling connections of any kind, use firm, even pressure but never excessive force. Small signal pins are very easily damaged if connected incorrectly. If it just won't fit, try to establish a reason rather than giving it a 'hopeful' shove. Most connectors have some kind of alignment system to prevent incorrect connection.

    Handling

PC devices/peripherals are generally very delicate in nature. Handle them with extreme care and always employ some method to disperse static electricity. A good trick here is to keep in mind how much it costs to replace when you take it out of the packaging!

    Cleaning

With the exception of the exterior of the case, never try to clean any part of your system with any liquid detergents or cloths.
If you find a build-up of dust inside the machine after some time, disconnect the unit completely, remove the case sides and use an Air Duster to blow out the dust from the case. Air Duster should be available from most electronic supply shops, and is basically a can of clean, compressed air.

The key to working with PC's is to stay calm, check your work over and over again, and if it still doesn't work, ask someone who knows.
