    How to files open in a new window

    Sometimes the default (which corresponds to a double click) to open a file change, which will open files in new windows, which annoying. To return to normal functioning of the double click, follow these steps in order.

    Step 1: Check in the Folder Options

    1. Open the Explorer (why open a folder or My Computer, for example).
    • Under XP, go to the Tools menu and select "Folder Options"
    • Under Vista, go to the "Organizer" and choose "Folder Options and Research


    2. On the General tab, check that box open all files in a single window and checked.
    3. Validate the window and try to see if it works or not.

    Step 2: Verify the default action for opening files

    XP

    1. Also in the Folder Options, go to the File Types tab.
    2. Select (None) Folder.
    3. Click on Advanced.
    4. Select the action open and then click Default and click OK.
    5. Close all other windows and try again.


    For Vista (and also available in XP)

    1. This method will make any direct changes in the registry, it is strongly recommended to save before any manipulation.
    2. Open the Registry Editor
    3. Select the key:
    4. HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ Folder \ shell
    5. Please double click the value (default)


    • If you're running Vista, enter data as explore the value and validate.
    • If you're running XP, open to enter data and confirm the value.


    The changes will be immediate.

    Step 3: Verify orders
    Where the corresponding options to "Open" and "Explorer" are completely damaged, do this:

    1. Open Notepad: Start Menu> All Programs> Accessories> Notepad.

    2.1. For XP, copy this in notepad:

    3. Go to the File menu> Save.
    4. Choose where you want to save the file (the desktop for example).
    5. Give him the name option_par_defaut.reg
    6. Choose "All files" in the drop-down list.
    7. Click Save and close Notepad.
    8. Make a double click on the file you just created, and agree to confirm and validate the final message.
