How to Save settings on Exit Windows

This trick allows you to determine whether Windows should or not save your settings when you close Windows.

The parameters in question are those of the office, start menu, task bar and control panel.

System requirements: Windows 2000 to a minimum.

For the professional version and integrals

    1. Open the group policy editor locale:

With Vista, type gpedit.msc in the search bar in the Start menu and press the ENTER key.
Under XP, go to the Start Menu> Run> type gpedit.msc and press the ENTER key.

    2. Go to User Configuration> Administrative Templates> Office
    3. On the right side of the window, double-click Do not save the settings when quitting.

    4. You can choose between:
    • Off the record settings enabled.
    • On the registration parameters is disabled.
    • Not Configured is the default setting, therefore equivalent to Off.

    5. Confirm and close the window.

Otherwise, you can do so by modifying the registry.

    1. Save the registry database if necessary.
    2. Open the Registry Editor
    3. Select the key:
    4. HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer
    5. Change the DWORD value NoSaveSettings (if it does not create this by going to the Edit menu> New DWORD value):

    • Put it in 1 to disable recording parameters leaving Windows. If you restart your PC, all your changes will be canceled.
    • Put it to 0 to activate the registration parameters leaving Windows.

The changes in the registry will be taken up immediately.
