The method described below is valid for an AGP card format or PCIexpress, as well as under OS Windows XP and Vista.
The market for graphics processors (GPU) is dominated by two manufacturers: Nvidia and ATI.
They sell their production assemblers (Asus, Powercolor, Saphire, .....) which confectionnent the final product: the graphics card.
- Uninstalling the old card
- In the Control Panel, click System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> cards.
- Unroll the sub-menu and select your current graphics card.
- Right click and choose uninstall.
This will lead to uninstall the drivers and remove the card from the list of hardware installed on your computer.
- Shutting down the PC
Food and unplug all cables connected to the rear panel.- Place the unit on a table
- Remove the side panel to access cards extensions.
- Before continuing, check if your new acquisition has a dedicated power connector,
- If so, check that your food is equipped with the proper outlet.
- Otherwise, look in accessories supplied with the box, maybe one adapter is compris.Si you do not have this adapter, you must obtain one, in some cases, changing food , Be careful to check this before buying a new card.
- Before touching your card inside the box
Remember to discharge static electricity (just touching the pipe of a radiator or a tap).
- Remove the screw fixing your graphics card to the PC box, and then repel or unlock the locking system at the rear of the PCI-Express or AGP. (most motherboards have a system which prevents the graphics card to the connector lane, each manufacturer has its own solution, refer to the motherboard manual for details)
- Remove the card, without undue force. (it is often easier to place the housing flat for this operation)
