Protecting the mailbox in Outlook Express

    Protecting the mailbox

First possibility, consult its messages on the website provider (Webmail) after its return IDs and passwords. The letters are not sent on the computer they are stored at the ISP.

    Limiting access to attachments

1 - Do not open the messages which we are sure of the origin (in any case not those with bizarre titles).
And, in general, prevent the opening of potentially unsafe attachments.
Tools menu -> Options -> Security. In the "Anti-virus, check" Do not allow the opening of registration or attachments that could contain a virus "-> OK.
By proceeding in this way, OE will report the suspicious PJ (for their extensions including jpg. Etc. ...). Unable to touch, but all do not contain a virus and can be important, click on "Upload". It can open.

    2 - To increase security
Tools menu -> Options -> Security. In the "virus protection" check "Area of sensitive sites (more secure)" -> OK

3 - Disable automatic display messages as they arrive (a virus can hide in the content of a message without PJ):
View menu -> Layout. Uncheck "Show preview pane" -> OK
This helps remove them before they appear.
To view a message: double-clicking or right-click -> "Open" The message opens in another window also more comfortable than the small pane.

4 - Save the attachments of messages before opening
Or right mouse click on the clip (if the pane is used) -> Save
Or right click in the "Join" on top of the window (if the pane is not used) -> Save
In the folder where it is registered -> right click of a mouse (to select) and then click on "Scan with Norton" (that is my anti virus, but ditto if you have another)
If everything is clean, I open my attachment. If I have a doubt I delete.

    Avoid junk mail

1 - Send directly "Spam" in the trash (advertising, unwanted emails ...)
Select the message -> Menu Message -> Block Sender -> OK. These messages will go directly to "Deleted Items" If you make a mistake, to remove an address from this selection:
Tools menu -> Message Rules -> Blocked Senders List. To remove an address, select -> Delete -> OK for

2 - Change your email address (to be less targeted by spamming)
Tools menu -> Accounts. A click on the e-mail account -> Properties. In the "Email" edit text of his address

Prevent its correspondents to respond, they will have to manually change the address on erasing part nospam-(that does not know a robot that scans web pages to send spam)

3 - Use an address "trash" or better yet "Kleenex". The main mailbox should be reserved only ones (family and friends)
For all other correspondents (especially forums, mailing lists ...) prefer a messenger style Yahoo! The Post ... That is to be preferred by robots scrutable.
