    Memtest: Test your memory

Memtest86 is a program that will be very useful in diagnosing problems of RAM on your PC (hardware problem most of the time, or memory timings too high).

To use memtest, start with the download. Once this is done, double-click the file install.bat. The console opens and this appears:

When asked Enter target disk drive type a and press Enter. Insert a floppy disk and then press Enter.

Memtest is now copied to the floppy. Restart your computer by having taken care to configure the BIOS so that the computer to start searching for a system on the floppy drive. If all goes well, the program runs:

Now, your memory is being tested. It is better to leave memtest make several passes test (you can access various options settings by pressing the C:

There is a red banner is now as well as useful information to diagnose the problem. The most important information for you to know what the offending card (in the case of a configuration with multiple) is the column Falling address. It tells you from 0 address what is the address affected by the error, and the ability megabytes before the error. On the screen, we see that the error is located approximately 209 MB, this means that if you have two strips of 256 MB (or more) the error will be located on the first bar (on manual card mother, locations and their numbers are clearly mentioned). You'll then have to open your PC and change the offending strips or to find a stable system.

Before any change and if you see even a single error, increase your memory timings in the BIOS and re-do the test. If the problem persists, you can change your RAM sticks question.
