Tips to properly change laptop case

It is really not easy to change the entire case of the laptop. For that either you need to find a similar model of the laptop which is not working and remove its case to replace with the other one. Some parts are strongly molded which cannot be removed. In that case leave the same and go for service center to get it fixed. Some parts are very sensitive like the screen hinges which can be broken easily.

There are no strict rules to replace the body in case of PC. For an laptop you need to be more patient and methodical and fix anything that remove or disconnect. Here are some recommendations that may be useful when you are trying to work on changing the body of a laptop. First you must do this only after unpluging the power cord. I will strongly advice you to get rid of static electricity and then only go an open the case. Do not play with the same while connected to electricity. You can face shock in that case which is harmful for both you and your system. It is extremely important to remove any static electricity to prevent damage to equipment.

To replace the case of your existing laptop follow this :

    • If you are new and you are not aware about the connections then before you remove or disconnect anything from the laptop draw a diagram. This diagram must consist of all cable connections and their location. You must have a bit hardware knowledge. The laptop is a bit complicated product where you must know which connectors and stuff goes where. Especially the screws. This refers to disk drives, cables, connectors, etc and all other items installed in your notebook. At the same time pay attention to the one used as fasteners.
    • First, carefully remove the card if any attached. There are additional cards attached in the inner side of the system. If the cards are connected to some cables before removing the card, disconnect the appropriate cable. One by one, remove all the screws that secure the card in place, and then in turn remove the expansion card. Put each card in a safe place where it can not be damaged. Keep the screws safely somewhere so that you can get that easily and do not loose them. Now came the turn and drive ribbon cables. It is also necessary to fix the scheme, as there are drives in the enclosure and a cable that connects to any drive. Remove all the fasteners holding the drives in place. Keep the hard drive safe someother place and remember the location of the same.
    • Now remove the memory which can be SIMM or DIMM and tge processor. I will recommend you to keep the manual of the laptop in front of you so that in that you can get the schematic of laptop. The manual told you the location of the hardware and other fitting support. When removing the memory modules, be careful not to damage them or clamps that hold the modules in the slots. For cpu this work is more complicated. Remove the fan first and then go for the cpu. Everything is integrated over the small green board inside. Look for the processor socket and then remove the processor from the socket. Do not damage the same.
    • Once you had disconnected all stuff then you will need to remove the motherboard.

It is correct that for some old models it become easier to remove the case, but for recent design the same becomes more and more tough. You cannot just remove it and make your laptop proper. It is best to go for some service center and get a fix for that. The reason can be due to the fixing which is very complicated and can be done by some kind of specialized tools only.

There are some tools which can help you to change the case with some easy steps. The only things which stuck is the hinges of the screen. You can buy some DIY tools from your nearby shop and change the body. There are some ready to use cases comes for laptops and netbooks which can can used here. Mostly I use an case above the regular laptop body. This helps to protect it body from getting damaged.
