Improve performance of SATA Hard disks in Windows Vista

Windows Vista runs on old machines, but we do make the most of that on recent material. It should even adjust some settings to point to Vista that can fully benefit from the latest generation of devices. SATA is one glaring example. By default, to remain compatible with all PCs, Vista does not exploit its full potential. A small adjustment, however, take advantage of SATA drives at the top of their power.

Vista can display significantly higher performance using SATA last generation and activating a feature disabled by default:

- Open the Start menu by pressing the [windows]
- Type the word "manager" in the search field and click on Device Manager
- Deploy the tree branch under "Disk Drives"
- Locate your internal SATA disks (serialATA)

- For each SATA disk:
* Click on the name of the right mouse button
* Select "Properties"
* Open the tab "Strategies"
* Check the "Enable advanced performance"
* Click "OK"

- Close the Device Manager
- Restart Windows Vista

Can we do same thing in IDE hard disk also? I mean is there any same kind of trick for IDE hard disk?

If you use any Serial ATA hard drives, you can significantly improve their management and accelerate the transfer of data, writing and reading, by activating a mode optimized for Vista.

1. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel.

2. Click on an audio equipment.

3. Click Device Manager.

4. Deploy the Disk drives tree. Click the right mouse button on the drive to accelerate and click Properties.

5. In the resulting window, open the Policies tab.

6. Check the boxes, Optimize for better performance, Enable write caching on the disk and Enable advanced performance and click OK.

7. Repeat for your other hard drives.
