Setting wifi connection on Windows Vista using "Zero Configuration"

Since Windows XP, Microsoft has incorporated into its operating system an agent Wifi, named by the firm "Zero Configuration."

    Activation of service to start

To work with the "Zero Configuration", it is necessary first of all that wireless service is activated at startup. It will then check this parameter or modify it if necessary.

Go to the Start menu, then Run. Here, we will take the command "services.msc". You get a window containing all local windows.

In this list, you will find the service: "Service list network." Once this line found, right-click and then Properties. Check here two things:
    • Startup Type: Make sure you are on "automatic", if not indicate "automatic".
    • Status of service: it must state "Started," if it does not click the "Start" button just below.

Once this is done, confirm on OK, then close the different windows open.

Activation of the network management by Windows

Once the service auto-configuration wireless is active, we still have to activate the network management by windows. To do this, we will go to the "Control Panel" and then "Network and Sharing Center". In most cases, Windows recognize your access point, in which case click "Connecting to a network".

Select your access point (Its default name is often indicated on a label in a corner of the modem / router), click "Connect", and enter the key WEP / WPA in the area set aside for that purpose. To find the type of key and the key encryption by default, please refer to the manual of your device, then validate.

Make sure the PC receives a signal. And here's you are connected!

    Having problem setting wifi connection

Access point does not appear in the list of access points available

This case is rare with most of the devices that are being sold for use of the Internet. In this case, first check that the access point is operational for the WiFi; it does not miss any WiFi adapter and the WiFi network must be activated.

It may be that despite all the access point is hidden, in this case, follow the below procedure:

Click on "Set up a connection or a network" at the left and then select "Network and Sharing". Now select "Manage the Wireless Network". If your access point is not in the list of available networks, click Add and then "Create a Network Profile Manually". Enter the network name (SSID) and the security key. To find the type of key and the key encryption by default, please refer to the manual of your device and then validate it.

It will ask you for the confirmation, just allow it and now you are connected.

If you are still facing any problem then do ask for help on Networking & Security forum giving as much information as possible, error messages, what you've already tested, etc.
