Before anything else it should be noted that a USB key or a USB drive will not work until Windows 98 SE (Second Edition). Make sure USB ports are USB 2.0 (High Speed USB). Otherwise, the key will work but at low speed, so with file transfers slower.
* 1. In the Control Panel / System / Device select display devices connected
* 2. Then select the small logo indicating Hi-Speed USB mass storage device (or any other appelation with the word USB)
* 3. Displayed below then drawing a small hard drive, invisible in the other presentation (by type).
* 4. Click on the hard drive.
* 5. Windows informs it looks and updates the pilot previously installed with the CD that came with the key! In case of loss of the CD, you can download the driver on http://www.driverguide.com/. In last resort, you can try a generic driver
* 6. If this does not do the same with other lines USB (usually 2 supports USB).
* 7. Windows should then finally admit your USB or MP3 player.
It is also possible to reinstall the Windows Media Format SDK 11 provided for windows XP SP2 minimum. This may solve the problem of a pilot USB or MP3 player unrecognized.
Please note that it is imperative to install the driver before connecting the device for the first time. If ever it were to happen, go to the properties of peripheral and uninstall the device, uninstall the driver, then reinstall it again. This is the source of at least 70% of problems.
