Manage Search Engines in Firefox does not work

    Hello,

If I am checking at the search engines then Yahoo is at the top and then all other search engines are in non-alphabetical order? So, if I am going into "Manage Search Engines" to re-arrange every one of them then they work fine for the first time. But as soon as I restart the firefox browser then they are back with their same order? Is this a bug in Firefox browser or something else? What is the possible solution for this problems?

    Thank you.

You can try to restore default search engines. Default search engines that come pre-installed in Firefox currently include Google, Yahoo, Bing, Amazon.com, eBay, Twitter, and Wikipedia. If you have removed any of the default search engines. you can restore them using the "Manage Search Engines "Restore Defaults" button. More information here - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Search_Bar

There is a file called prefs.js, in profile folder, incase gets damaged or corrupted to the extent that it is no longer writable, then it will prevent any changes from being saved. So to fix this issue you will have to replace this damaged file. To know more about how to replace prefs.js file in firefox, follow the steps given here - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved

If you are using the OMNIBAR extensions and then organize engines extension, then it could be possible that there must be some conflict between the 2 extensions then try to disable them and see if that works. If this doesnt work, then you can even try to delete the search.json file and also a search.sqlite file in the firefox profile folder which will definitely solve the case for sure - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox

If nothing is working for you then you can try to do some more troubleshooting to solve this issue. You need to start firefox in safe mode and then make your search management changes only. After that you can close Firefox and then start it up again in safe mode and then see if those changes stuck or were changed again.
