The email file does not appear on SMB server

Sponsored Links
In a large corporation by means of mixed Mac/Windows network most of them utilize Samba to permit Mac OS X 10.6 to have right of entry the file servers. This works extremely well for fundamental operations such as browsing the servers, or copying files, etc. On the other hand, it is not clear how to generate a link to a file on a server, such with the intention of it be able to be emailed to users. OS X mechanically mounts the server as a local volume, and Finder opens a window so with the purpose of they be able to perceive the folder contents. However, when endeavoring to generate a link to a particular file, via this syntax: smb://servername/SomeFolder/AnotherFolder/FileToShare.mp4. It does not work. When the recipient hit it off on the link, Finder come into view to mount an empty fabricated volume called SomeFolder/AnotherFolder/FileToShare.mp4, containing no files. It is as if the URL parsing sustain or maintain for Samba links merely supports referencing directories to a certain extent than individual files.

Re: The email file does not appear on SMB server

For illustration, when you are utilizing an AFP server, if a link such as "afp://servername/SomeFolder/AnotherFolder/FileToShare.txt" is sent via email, when the beneficiary hit it off on the link, the file "FileToShare.txt" is not essentially opened. As an alternative, the server is mounted (if essential), and the innermost folder is opened (in this case, AnotherFolder).

I believe it might be an authentication problem, are the clients fraction of a domain and do you have encompassed single sign on for the servers the links are positioning to. If the users manually attach to the server do they acquire prompted for a password.

Re: The email file does not appear on SMB server

If the users are on your network (LAN) just presently or immediately, email them what you just typed. If they are not on your network then you not be able to do it with the intention of way. If you have comprised tried to facilitate you might not be observing your link 'highlighted' in blue it might be for the reason to facilitate the format of your email is plain text and not rich text or HTTP. It depends on your email program, other than you not be able to link to files through most email programs. Send them the standard link, \\server\directory\tree\file.doc, and have encompassed them copy it and paste it into their Explorer address bar.
