How to configure more than one LAN from single broadband modem

I want to share a broadband modem and access internet from other computer. These two computers are not connected. I want to set network using a wireless access point and two wireless network cards. One computer will attach to access point and other to broadband access point. Please someone tell me other possible ways to share a broadband modem. Is there any other way of sharing the modem using adapters/ or extensions, like sharing the telephone line?

Sharing of modem depend on its LAN port numbers. If it has single port then you have to use switch. Using switch connect all computers with modem. Else you can use router and share internet connection between computers. The number computers which can be connected to modem is depends on the number of ports available with modem. Else you can use your set up. Connect modem with one computer and keep it as gateway to which second computer will connect. With router is computer is independent, where as the gateway aspect will require first computer to be on in order to go online.

If you want to use single modem then you can do in some of these ways. Use wifi modem and use in 30 meter boundary. For BSNL modem rage goes till 100 meter a well. If wifi is not there in system you can install wifi. You can use your current modem provided that if it has 2 ethernet ports and make connection using RJ45 Cable maximum distance of cable without hub is 300ms. Else if your modem doesn’t have 2 ethernet port then buy a hub which will at least have 8ports. You can use any connections which are mentioned here.

The best way to connect more than one computer to single modem is to use router. Device determines hardware and wireless connection from the single modem. Few broadband modem contains USB port as well . These USB ports connect second computer to the device without the help of router. If you want to go through USB port you need extra software and should be only done after the approval of service provider.

You need to buy a router which connects your computer with modem. First of all, you have to install them. After the set up is finished for router unplug the Ethernet cable, which will connect computer to broadband modem. Don’t unplug it from cable. With the help of Ethernet cable , plug the router into empty port of the modem. Do all cable connection between modem, router and computer. Turn off all devices. Now turn them on in this order first modem, router and in the end computer. Now you can access internet in your all computers using single broadband modem.
