Back or Forward buttons not working in Internet Explorer 8

I have windows 7 running laptop in which I have installed Internet Explorer 8. I am facing some problem regarding this Internet Explorer 8. Internet Explorer 8 frequently will not make active the Back or Forward key - they presently remain grayed out. Looks like an issue with the Internet Explorer 8 interface to me. For a while the Back arrow is grayed out as well as it won't effort even if I press on it.
