Facing error in downloading packages in Ubuntu 10.04

I have been using Ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop and i am not very much familiar about the Ubuntu 10.04 environment recently I have noticed that I could not install packages available on synaptic. When the download starts an error message appears "An error occurred ..... Failed recovery http:// .... not connected, connection timed out. " What should I do?

I would like to review the result of sudo apt-get update if not, if you pass through a proxy, check in synaptic go to the settings then select preferences and click network, and verify whether the check box "direct connection to internet" is checked. if not then simply check it apply all the settings and try to download the packages again on your system. Hopefully the problem should be fixed.

Hello there could be several reasons:
    • You have micro-cuts in the Internet connection (talk it over with your ISP)
    • If you wiffi to disconnect or have low signal
    • May the DNS servers have some kind of problem, there is nothing you can do ISP problem.
    • Have some sort of Malware, pass an antivirus and antispyware or something similar

You are not able to download the package because of a number of reasons most probably it appears as you have not configured the internet properly on your system. Hence try to configure the IP settings manually because a number of times the ip settings are not assigned dynamically this is also the case with my system i had to configure the ip settings manually this will definitely help you to get the problem resolved as mine is solved.
