    Internet Sharing in Windows

I know how to configure an Internet Connection Sharing in Windows XP (also in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2005). But I don't know much about the sharing of internet theoretically. I am also not having knowledge about the concepts. I have been an assignment regarding this topic. So thought that you guys can provide some help for me. Please help me by providing some information about it as early as possible.

    Re: Internet Sharing in Windows

A key motivation for establishing a home network is to share the Internet connection. If you share an Internet connection on your network, all network members can check their emails or use the Web without needing to connect independently with multiple modems and phone lines. You have two ways to share the Internet connection on your network. You can use the shared Internet connection built into Windows, or, preferably, a broadband router from USRobotics.

    Re: Internet Sharing in Windows

The latest versions of Windows (Windows 2000 and Windows XP) include a sharing feature to connect to the Internet. Although this method works, it can be cumbersome and require that the computer sharing the Internet connection to act as a server (ie It must "serve" other computers with an Internet connection). The computer has not been specifically designed to accomplish this task and provide the service diverts attention from other tasks of calculation. This method also requires that the computer sharing the Internet connection is on, which can be a drawback if you want to browse the Web from another computer on your network.

USRobotics offers a solution for Internet sharing, which is incorporated in the 9003 model routers broadband ADSL Ethernet / USB model 8000. This solution is preferable for three important reasons. First, share an Internet connection with a router does not impose any burden sharing on any computer, unlike the sharing feature built into Windows. The advantage of an Internet connection on router becomes even more evident with a high speed connection such as DSL.

The USRobotics Broadband routers incorporate a feature called "VPN passthrough". The "VPN" means VPN (Virtual Private Network). There is no need to worry about the specifics of this technology. The important thing is that the VPN passthrough is required to connect to many corporate networks, because it allows such networks to extend over a home network through a dial-up connection or a broadband connection. So if you want to connect to your office network from a computer on your home network, everything is ready with a broadband router from USRobotics. Also the USRobotics Broadband routers incorporate a high level of security, including firewalls. A firewall is software or hardware that protects your network from the Internet as a whole. You can still access whatever you want on the Internet, but other people on the Internet can not enter your network. The Model 9003 incorporates USRobotics excellent firewall features.

While a client / server network is an unnecessary burden for a typical home network, elements of the mentality client / server can be useful in a network among peers. For example, you could get out of your closet unused old computer, install a top drive of large capacity and designate it as "data server" for your network. You can use your database server to store large files that need to be saved. Then simply save the data onto the designated computer data server rather than save them individually on each computer on your network.

If you have more than one computer in your home, a network is undoubtedly beneficial. In addition to being generally lazy and stingy, we believe that everything should be done as easily and as cheaply as possible. With a network, you can work anywhere in your home and access files from any of your computers (even in bed). You can also make substantial savings on equipment such as printers and external disk drives as you share these kinds of devices on your network instead of having to buy them separately for each computer.

Wireless technology has helped simplify networking allowing computers to connect without needing to lay cables in every room. With a wireless network, you have the same benefits and speeds comparable to an Ethernet network, but without the inconvenience of a physical plant. The wireless also offers the advantage of allowing you to move the computers without having to worry about the physical location of a wall jack or other type of network connection. This feature is particularly cool if you want to connect a laptop and work in bed.

The kits only work if all the computers in your network require the same hardware. For example, if you chose to install an Ethernet network, the kit contains two network adapters, two Ethernet cables and a switch or router. However, the two network adapters in the kit are the same type of bus. If one computer has an available ISA bus and the other computer has an available PCI bus, or if you want to use a USB network adapter on one computer, you probably cannot buy a kit for your situation.
