Slow internet on Windows vista using Broadcom 802.11 wifi

Hello there, I am facing a weird problem with my Sony laptop which has Windows Vista on it. The laptop is connected to a Netgear wireless router for accessing Internet but the Internet connection is very slow. All the websites take a long time to open. The NIC on the laptop is of Broadcom technologies. Is this because of the faulty NIC? Or the router is having some problems. Please help me in solving Slow internet issue on Windows vista using Broadcom wifi card. Any help is highly appreciated.

All the Network interface cards have a software interface port configured which can be used for testing. Follow the steps below to test the Network interface card :-
    1. Click on Start and select run.
    2. Type Ping "127.0.0.1" and hit enter.
    3. A command prompt window will open which will show status of data sent and received.
If there are any data packet loss while sending and receiving data, then you will have to replace the network card as it is faulty. Replacing the NIC will solve the problem.

Security software installed on the computer can create such problems on the computer. Security softwares work on the principle of blocking all the unknown traffic which is originating or terminating on the computer. Due to this working principle, sometimes the user defined traffic is also blocked which can slow down the Internet on the computer. Try moving the process of the browser to the trusted application list of the security software. To test, you can disable the security softwares and check the performance of the computer.

Have you disabled the IPV6 support of Windows Vista? The IP version of Windows Vista is IPv6 which conflicts with the network if the network is configured on IPv4. Hence try disabling the IPv6 support of Windows Vista and check if the internet is working properly on the computer or not. Go to the TCP/IP properties and remove the check mark from the option which says "Enable IPv6 support" and click on Apply. Click on OK and connect to the router, see if the Internet is working properly on the laptop.

Have you tried using some other browser for accessing the internet? If the browser which is installed on the computer is having any problems then webpages will load up slowly. There are lot of browsers which are available online which can be used for surfing. Hence download and install some other browser on the system and see if there is any improvement in the loading of the web pages.

Virus can be the reason for the problem. Some virus continuously broadcast some information on the communication channel. If the communication channel is flooded with the information, the user desired traffic will suffer. Hence scan the system and repair all the files which are infected. After repairing all the infected files on the computer, see if the problem persists or not.

Are there any updates or downloads going on in the background? I will recommend that you check if there are any active downloads on the computer which are running in background. Some applications have the scheduled update procedure which is running in background. Such update procedures may sometimes create such problem. Hence stop such update procedures and see if there is any improvement in the Internet speed.
