    Re: What are Meta Tags

Meta tags are used to set metadata in an HTML page. We put this information in the element head and they will not be displayed on the page. More broadly, all indexing tools, that is to say all the tools to analyze your pages to identify various information. When we talk about meta tags, it actually speaks to the element meta in HTML (see what says the HTML 4.01 specification for this element).

    Re: What are Meta Tags

Generally, we try to accelerate a site by more specific words used like element, tag, attribute, etc. If we speak of a meta tag, it is generally thought to something meta that uses attributes and specific values. One speaks for example of meta description for the following tag: <meta name="description" content="Page Description…" />.

A one more example here can give you a better explanation. You may have noticed, the name is placed in the below example just after the word meta is the keyword used in a specific attribute: the following cases, it is the attribute name or l 'attribute http-equiv. A example for the same is Content-Type META and META Keywords - <meta http-equiv=Content-Type content=text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 /> <meta name=keywords content=downloads, updates, freeware, shareware, />

    Re: What are Meta Tags

You can check here that meta tags are obsolete. Nearby, a forum dedicated to SEO, you can read messages that advise information meta tags. The metadata inserted through the meta tags are for various tools to exploit them. This has two consequences, the first is if no tool uses accurate information, then give this information is useless and in other one if there are tools that use specific information but that such exploitation does not interest us, or that the information is not relevant to the site on which we work, we will also gaining ground.

    Re: What are Meta Tags

Using META tag is not essential. In fact, the information it provides should logically be sent by the web server when it sends the HTML page to the browser. But step this information in the HTML page itself can have information about character encoding used UTF-8 or ISO-8859-1 or others), which will prove very useful in following cases, the web server misconfigured, not sending information on the encoding. The browser will then try to find them in the HTML page. In all cases where the HTML page is a local file, opened directly by the user and not accessed from a Web server. For example for the HTML documentation provided with software for a page of information on a CD or DVD, when the user saves a web page into documents, etc.
