Firefox 3.6 implements a hidden feature to set the tape speed (scroll) a Web page. A simple trick to gain fluidity of surfing. To take advantage of this new secret, open a new tab and type about: config in the address bar. Then in the same window look for mousewheel.withnokey.numlines: indicates the number of lines covered by a catch mouse wheel. This value is used to determine the distance of scrolling before applying the acceleration settings. Increasing this value will effectively boost the speed.

In the same tab you can also set the value of mousewheel.acceleration.start. Here the number of notches of the mouse wheel to operate before the acceleration takes effect. This value is based on the previous key. By default, the value is set to -1, so that no acceleration is allowed. Choose a starting value to 3 notches from wheel to avoid fast scroll too quickly.

Also to accelerate the peed you can increase the value of mousewheel.acceleration.factor key in about.cfg file. It is the acceleration factor. By default, the value is based on 10, a constant speed of progression. Increase the latter to accelerate the rate of acceleration. It is still recommended to go through the system properties of the mouse to define these different options. It is difficult to provide indicative values here because it depends on the particular display resolution of your screen.

However, many times directly in the browser it offers the possibility to dedicate exclusively to surf the mouse settings to be specially adapted for web pages. To go further, it is possible to liquefy a notch below the scroll pages by selecting the Use smooth scrolling in module Advanced Options from Firefox menu. You can search for more there.

It is right that by editing those three keys mousewheel.withnokey, mousewheel.withnokey.numlines and mousewheel.withnokey.sysnumlines offers you a better smooth scrolling on Firefox. You can adjust the toggle front and back in this configuration keys. But you must ensure that before editing the same there can be system issues in this file. It is a critical system component of Firefox.
