How to block pop-ups in Internet Explorer 8?

Hello there, I have recently installed Internet Explorer 8 on my computer and I am facing very weird problems with it. Everytime a link is clicked in the browser, it pops-up a new window for that link. This is very irritating as the new window takes long time to open and I end opening many windows. So if anybody knows How to block pop-ups in Internet Explorer 8 then please share some information which may help me in solving the issue. Just for the information the computer is running on Windows XP operating system and is powered by Intel pentium 4 processor. Any suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks in advance.

Re: How to block pop-ups in Internet Explorer 8?

BY looking at the problem it seems like the Internet explorer version which is installed on your computer is corrupt and hence it is creating such problems while running. All the applications have lot of files which are associated to it. If any of the files which are associated to the applications get corrupt then the application will not work properly. The only way to solve the problem is to find and replace the files which are corrupt or to reinstall the browser again. Before reinstalling the browser, uninstall the browser and then remove all the files and the keys related to the applications from the computer. Once all the traces of the applications are removed from the computer, download and install the application again.

The symptoms which you have described are similar to symptoms of a virus infected system. There is a high possibility that the system is infected by some virus. Virus's have the tendency to link with the files which are associated to the files of the applications which are used frequently. If virus gets linked with the files of such application then the application will not work properly. Hence scan the system with some updated antivirus and check for the files which are infected by virus. Repair or quarantine the files which are infected and then see if the browser works normally or not.

Re: How to block pop-ups in Internet Explorer 8?

Are there any add-on or 3rd party applications installed on the browser? Many times the files of the add-on or the application are corrupt. If such add-on or application is installed on the browser, it will corrupt the files of the browser which will lead to the browser not working properly. Therefore to check if any add-on or application is creating problems with normal working of the browser, try disabling all the add-ons and applications of the browser and then see the performance of the browser.

All the browsers which we use can be customized in the way the user wants it to be. There are certain settings in Internet Explorer 8 which enable the user to open the links in new windows or new tab when the user clicks on it. Changing the settings will help you in solving the problem. To change the settings of Internet explorer, open the browser and then select Tools. In tools, select Internet option and then remove the check mark from the option which says "Open links in New window". Once the check mark is removed, save and apply the settings. Now you will not face the same problem again.

It is a typical case of browser hijack. In browser hijack the preferences of the browser are changed automatically which creates problems while using the browser. To be sure if it is a browser hijack, download some other browser and then try accessing the Internet. If the other browser works fine, then download and install the Malware bytes program and run it in safe mode. Once the program is executed, remove Internet explorer and then reinstall it again.
