Unable to send emails using Mozilla Thunderbird

Hi,

I can not send messages from my account via the mail client "mozilla thunderbird. Here is the message received: "Sending the message failed. The message can be sent due to a failure to connect to the SMTP server smtp.hotmail.com. The server may be unavailable or refusing SMTP connections. Verify that the settings for your server SMTP are correct and try again. Otherwise contact your network administrator ". I have changed on the 587, that does not solve the problem. I also tried turning off the antivirus and firewall, but same result. Why I am unable to send emails using Mozilla Thunderbird ???

Thunderbird can not work directly with Hotmail or Lycos accounts, vendors not implementing standard protocols, like POP and SMTP, and use proprietary code that only works with mail clients own the company. 4. On the Copies & Folders in to send messages automatically, select Other. In the dropdown, select your user name and then sent items.
5. Click OK.
