It also known as IEEE 1394, its capable of high speed, it has ability to accept connections without shutting down or restarting the computer, everything contrary to the SCSI bus. To give you an idea of the difference in speed, a peripheral connected via Universal Serial Bus (USB) has a top speed of 12 Mb per second, compared with 400 Mb (50 MBps) per second that can reach the connection via FireWire. The cables are handled in this 6-pin interface for data and power, reaching up to 63 peripheral connect the chain through cables up to 4.25 meters in longitude. |

FireWire interface is mainly characterized by: - Your very quickly, making it ideal for use in multimedia and storage applications, such as camcorders, hard drives, optical devices, etc ... - They reach speeds of 400 megabits per second, keeping it fairly stable. - Flexibility of connection and the ability to connect up to 63 devices. - Accepts cable lengths up to 425 cm. - Response at the time. FireWire can ensure even distribution of data in perfect sync. |

FireWire and USB are widely used in computers and consumer electronics. USB 1.1 is very suitable for computer mice, keyboards and other input devices, low bandwidth while USB 2.0 provides a huge speed advantage over the older USB, FireWire remains the king of high speed performance interface for external devices such as hard drives, DV camcorders and tape recorders and even 4X DVD / writers. |

FireWire is the only port capable of supporting modern digital video cameras operating in DV format. Even the latest manufacturing come with iLink port, which has been renamed by manufacturers such as DV port. By now you must use an adapter card that paar tell a PC with FireWire ports (iMac and G4 and bring built-in), but has already begun to appear lso include motherboards. As for the software, Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, Windows ME and Windows 2000/XP support IEEE 1394. Same as version 2.4 of the Linux kernel, which is already in some distributions like Mandrake 9.0. |

Peripherals that use i.Link port, you can connect to a FireWire network (with the right cables), although there is no room for the pins responsible for keeping the current in the bus and we have to plug these devices separately, it is unfortunate, precisely one of the comforts of FireWire / IEEE 1394 was the significant reduction of wires, especially in large bus with many peripherals. |
