Unable to set default browser in Windows 7

I have a dell inspiron laptop with windows 7 as my operating system. I am using the mozilla firefox as my default browser which blocks all my .exe downloads although the sites which i am visiting is allowed in the security zone settings. So i want to make the Internet Explorer 7 as my default browser. But whenever i try to do so i get the error "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions on this computer " and hence i cannot set my default browser. Serious help needed

I don't know that there is something in the firefox which does this. Also it could not block them entirely. The firefox blocks only that .exe file which are bad hence you should try to download .exe file from a different website if the problem still persists then just visit the mozilla firefox website and upgrade it to the latest version.

Though I have not used the Mozilla Firefox yet but i have extensively used the Internet explorer So i would suggest you to set it. Open the Internet Explorer and then go to IE Options and uncheck the option to check if IE is the default browser click apply and then press the OK Button. This might solve the bug.

If you can't do that way i would like to suggest another way to achieve this you can set the IE7 as your default browser with the help of the instructions mentioned below.
    1. Open the control panel.
    2. Select Add/remove programs applet.
    3. Choose Set Program Access and Defaults button.
This will fix your issue because the IE7 is set as the default browser and hence your problem will be solved.

As you have mentioned you are not able to set the default browser manually by clicking the start menu and then select run and type control appwiz,,3. Then click the custom button one time. It will open a list of different browser that are present on your system and then click OK. Now internet explorer will be set as your default browser.

As far as i know Mozilla firefox it is a very good browser and it is very good when it comes browsing the internet so i think there is something wrong with it you can uninstall it once ad then again install it from the mozilla website and then you solve this issue. All the best to you .

    To reset Internet Explorer settings
If you installed another Web browser after installing Internet
Explorer and Internet Tools, some of your Internet Explorer settings
may have changed. You can reset your Internet Explorer settings to
their original defaults, including your home page and search pages,
and choice of default browser, without changing your other browser's
    settings.
1.. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    2.. Click the Programs tab.
3.. Click the Reset Web Settings button.

    Web Settings button
[[Click this to reset the default Internet Explorer settings for your home
and search pages, and prompt to make Internet Explorer your default browser.
Note: This only resets these settings if you have installed another Web
browser after installing Internet Explorer and Internet Tools, and that
browser has changed the default settings.]]

    Try this:
Open IE | Tools | Internet Options | Programs tab | make sure
"Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser" is
    CHECKED.
Press Ok, and when you next run IE, a confirmation
dialog box should appear asking you whether you want it to be the
    default browser again. Click Yes.

    hope this helps.
