    Information on DNS

    Hi,
What is a Domain Name System or DNS. I am looking for a overview and working of this service. How does it works and why it is necessary. What I know is that it is related to some web url. Without this your web site cannot work. How to check this. How to find out the DNS of any site. Also what are the negative aspects of this service online.

    Re: Information on DNS

When a user accesses your site by typing your domain name, "Internet" will first go query the database to find the Registrar is the DNS that has authority for this website. It will then move to the DNS server (from your host) to find the IP address for your domain. Thus users can access your website. It is a important part of the internet. Without it you will be not able to login to any site.

    Re: Information on DNS

The problem with the DNS system is that if there is any changes in the servers then it can take time around 5 days to update. In addition, each Internet service provider (ISP) to accelerate the speed at which their customers can surf the Internet, caches the DNS registry. This means they make a local copy of the Registrar of information, to avoid having to seek the master DNS on the Internet each time someone wants to access a website. This accelerates the speed for the user because time for a browser search field and get the answer is reduced.

    Re: Information on DNS

The only negative aspect of moving a site from a server lies in the principle of caching (and what makes your new website is slow to be visible on the Internet) is that ISPs do not update their DNS records in every particular days and on the other hand some are faster. This process of updating the cache server is called the "spread", since the Registrar of information are copied by all servers on the web.

    Re: Information on DNS

The websites have an address called simplified URL (Uniform Resource Locator) and an IP address. To find Web sites, users are using the URL, while computers use IP addresses. The DNS translates URLs into IP addresses (and vice verse). For example, if you type a url in the address bar of your browser, your computer sends a request to a DNS server. The DNS server converts the URL into IP addresses so that your computer can find the Web server.

    Re: Information on DNS

Some computers are assigned a different IP address each time they connect to the Internet. An ISP can use this way a handful of IP addresses to serve many customers, but it means that the address of your computer on the Internet is constantly changing. If you host a website, you do not want the site name changes, even if your ISP changes the IP address. The updated dynamic DNS maintains the relationship between the name of your website and set the IP address changes so that your website is easy to find on the Internet.

    Re: Information on DNS

You must be connected to the Internet to find a DNS name or IP address. You can simply check that by a simple utility in windows called command prompt. Click on Start > Run and type cmd. Then type the command nslookup site name. For eg. nslooks wwwdotsomethingdotcom. The hit enter. This will show you the information of your ISP and the IP address of your site.
