Streaming with VLC in vista

Hello everyone, I'm new here to ask you for help

I want to broadcast a streaming video on a computer of a friend.

apparently, everything goes well on my side, the video seems to spread correctly the http protocol on port 8080

reception side, VLC seems to receive information (appearance in the bottom of the window of VLC 00,000,000) when I publish then no more, no picture or sound.

Where could be the problem?

Thanks for your help

Re: Streaming with VLC in vista

Have you tried by reinstalling VLC? there can be vista compatibility issues. Download latest vlc and try again. And also set default program for vlc in vista options.

And also have a look at this Vlc help page: VideoLAN streaming solution

Re: Streaming with VLC in vista

Can you give more details, like ,do you want to transcode the stream and are your computers in same subnet? I am using VLC media player 0.8.6c to watch streams from my Dreambox over a WLAN and it seems to work just fine with Windows Vista 32 bit.

Re: Streaming with VLC in vista

It happened to me also in Vista. There are some compatibility issues with VLC and Windows Vista. The way to get Vista and VLC to play nice is to modify VLC’s video output settings to use DirectX or Windows GDI.
  1. In VLC player Click Settings -> Preferences -> Video menu -> Click on Output Modules -> Click Advanced Options.
  2. In Video OutPut Module choose either one of the following options
    1. DirectX Video OutPut
    2. Windows GDI Video OutPut
  3. If one fails, try the other. Default is usually the best option, so this is only to be changed if you have problems.
  4. If these fail, you can try Dummy Video OutPut Function, or others.
