hi
i have heard about inktomi search engine but i dont know how it is going to optimize Google search please tell me that how it works with Google and other search option and what is the best way to get result ?

It's been over a year since one could consider Inktomi among the largest search engines on the web. The company's crawler-built index of web pages has stayed static at 110 million, while competitors such as AltaVista, FAST and Northern Light have pushed past the 200 and 300 million marks. In June 2000 Inktomi says its back. Later this month, some of its partners should begin announcing that they are making use of Inktomi's new 500 million page index. When they do, users will have access to the largest searchable database of web pages that the Internet has ever seen.

When a user uses the Microsoft search engine, the request is forwarded to Inktomi search engine that performs a classification of sites and presents the results corresponding to the request. This classification is sent to the search engine that presents results in its interface. The results displayed by the search engine Microsoft is ordered by Inktomi.

Following the acquisition of Inktomi by Yahoo, the initial idea to develop a clean engine technology to Microsoft resurfaced. Inktomi technology is used by Microsoft until November 2004 .

MSN Search is now on a search technology developed internally. MSN search has a new search algorithm and an initial index of over 5 billion URLs. Regarding the interface of the search tool, Microsoft opted for simplicity as its main competitor: Google.

Inktomi in fact, has developed a proprietary technology by which manages a database of over 500 million web pages, which also provides outsourcing services to its clients, completely freeing the party system and infrastructure. For example, when performing a search on HotBot GoTo or on the respective sites present a request to servers operated by Inktomi, which will return the results.
