Internet Explorer 8 can be uninstalled in Windows 7

One of those who tested construction, reports that through the "Turn Windows features on or off" can uninstall Internet Explorer 8, which has never been possible in any previous modern version of Windows. Although reported only actual program file iexplore.exe is removed in the current situation but the this requires two reboots, these are the indications that more things happening in the background.

That it is possible to uninstall Internet Explorer in Windows 7 may be a reservation by Microsoft to not risk an EU problem like the problem with Windows Media Player many years ago... likely to be highly damages and a lengthy lawsuit.

While this uninstallation does not remove the ties of the web browser in the operating system it does remove the Internet Explorer executable from the computer system.

This new option is more than likely in response to the recent accusations by the EU for antitrust issues that Microsoft has used its dominant Windows market share position to force other software, like Internet Explorer, onto the market. The company is probably finding that it is becoming quite expensive to be so strict on their integrated software.

Offering an IE8 uninstall option is likely to solve a number of potential legal problems for Microsoft. Will the IE uninstall stop Microsoft’s ongoing legal battles in Europe and other territories? Will it help or hinder Windows users and web developers?

Removing only the executable will not have an impact on system performance at all. What’s your take on this? Should Microsoft offer an option to remove Internet Explorer from the Windows operating system?

I don’t think this is anything new from what was in XP - users now (again) have the ability to remove IE shortcuts, but not IE itself. To me, this means that IE will still be on your computer, just not visible - as in XP.
