MSN Messenger uses FTP to transfer files. Block port 21. MSN Massager look for any open port when the standard ones are blocked. The only way to just block file transfers in MSN Massager, is to look at the whole packet, determine if it’s MSN Messenger, if it’s tiring to do a file transfer then block it. Using a Content filter will usually just block all MSN Messenger traffic.

I think your messenger is accepting it automatically. First of all upgrade to Messenger Plus. After installing it, open MSN PLUS =>preferences =>conversations =>principal (main) =>untick the option 'autoaccept file transfer by default' => click Apply and OK. It will work for you.

Re: How to stop or block file transfer in MSN messenger?

The new versions of MSN don't even need MSN transfer protocols or any proprietary protocols. They tunnel over http and even if you have a proxy in place, MSN will pick up the settings from IE and tunnel over the proxy. The only way to block MSN Messenger is at the proxy level if it is aware of MSN Messenger or at the firewall level via Smartdefense. However, Smartdefense will stop all MSN related traffic altogether and you would not be even able to log on to MSN.
