Export Windows Mail to Outlook 2003

When I use the export function in Window Mail to export to Outlook 2003 it seems to export or at least do something, telling me its going through the folders. It also finishes with no error messages. But when I open Outlook none of the messages have been transferred/imported.

Anyone have a clue?

Re: Export Windows Mail to Outlook 2003

Are you sure the folders are empty? Are you using the Messages view on the folder? (View menu) If so, close Outlook. Go to control panel, mail and delete the profile and start over with a new profile - use a new name for it, not the same name as the profile you deleted. Add the account then export from Mail to Outlook (use the export option in mail).

However - unless there is another reason for switching to outlook, I'd try to fix the problem in mail instead of switching to Outlook. (There is a very good chance outlook won't send either.) The original messages will be in Mail, even after export, until you delete them - so nothing is lost.

The file size between mail and outlook is going to be different - they use different storage methods.

Note that you must have Outlook 2003 installed and functional on the machine used to do the transfer or you will receive a MAPI error. Windows Mail, like Outlook Express, requires Outlook's "plumbing" in order to access the Outlook Personal Folders (.PST) file.

Does Outlook function correctly on its own already? Have you already applied Service Pack 3 to Outlook 2003?
If you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook, disable/uninstall this integration and try again.

Thanks for the suggestions. The main problem was not exporting the messages, it was getting them into outlook 2003.

Will let you know how i get on!
