    Mapi Client Error

Anyone experience an error when trying to import your messages database form outlook. The following steps do not even get me to the browse screen to select the file: Edit; IMPORT; OUTLOOK

Error - "Messages can not be imported from the MAPI client. An error has occured"

What can I do to get around this?

The MAPI client is Outlook, so you need to install it before you can use it in importing messages.

    Re: Mapi Client Error

Got same experience as envo diverter in my new machine with Vista and Windows Mail (no Outlook, too expensive), trying to import messages and contacts form the old machine. I have only PST files, they are backups because the old machine HW crashed unrecoverably.

Upon googling "client mapi vista" tried to download and install this:
Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1

    Brief Description:

Starting with Exchange 2007, neither the Messaging API (MAPI) client libraries nor CDO 1.2.1 are provided as a part of the base product installation. As a result, there is functionality missing that many applications depend on. Microsoft Exchange MAPI and CDO 1.2.1 provide access to these APIs.

    from here:
Download details: Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1

Nothing changed, same error as before.

    Ideas?

In order to transfer from a pst, Outlook has to be setup and configured on the same PC as Mail (or OE)
If you dont have access to the old Outlook PC, download Office2007 Trial, connect OL to that pst, then in Mail Import
