    error 0x800CCC79

    error message is -------

    The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

    The rejected e-mail address was 'so @so.com. Subject 'test', Account: 'So', Server: 'mail.so.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 No RDNS entry for 123.237.142.96', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
    ----------
    (email ids and other info hidden deliberately)

    after reading 100s of threads on this error, i'm not able to fix the problem in my laptop. i use windows vista.
    i use 3 different isps. bsnl, reliance and tataindicom's wireless.
    for last 20 days i have this problem and no solution is helping me.
    i tried setting smtp to 26 and get error as-----

    The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'So', Server: 'mail.so.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 26, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
    --------
    pls some one help.
    i called up bsnl broadband and they said there is a problem of sending emails. but i should be able to send in other isps, why not am i able to?

    pls do not say that isp is blocking port 25. don't ask me to check 'my server requires authentication' because i've done it all, in vain.

    Re: error 0x800CCC79

    This problem happens because your version of Outlook Express is set up to use Secure Socket Layer (SSL), which Tiscali does not use.

    To fix this problem:

    * Open Outlook Express, and click Tools
    * Then click on Accounts
    * Then click on your Tiscali connection and click Properties
    * Then click Advanced
    * On this screen remove the checks from the boxes This server requires a secure connection for both Outgoing mail (SMTP) and Incoming mail (POP3).
    * Bear in mind that you should be using a dial-up connection number prefixed with 1470 and that the outgoing mail server is smtp.tiscali.co.uk

    Re: error 0x800CCC79

    Use one of the three options below mention.

    NOTE: Do not combine the first option with either the second or third option.

    * Click to select the My server requires authentication check box, which is located in the Outgoing Mail Server properties in Outlook Express.

    * On the Exchange Server 5.5 computer, open the Internet Mail Service properties. On the Connections tab, click Accept Connections. Click to clear the Only from hosts using Authentication and the Clients can only submit if homed on this server check boxes.

    * On the Exchange 2000 server, enable Anonymous Access on the Authentication tab of the SMTP virtual server.
